19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a difficult season, managing just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - led to him exiting of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden title following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court from March of 2023.

Success also means the Russian has achieved 21 championships at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a title is particularly special," said ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive play style and regular emotional displays on court had prompted some to question if his ability to compete at the top level was finished.

But the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an improved serving game.

He came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging opponent, winning 4 of the final five games to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial professional championship, took control to force a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game break points in a tight deciding set before the champion won the break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner clinched the title with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
